Join the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) for the premiere of the feature length documentary "Food Chains,” Friday, 11/21 at the AMC in Downtown Disney! The film, co-produced by Eva Longoria and Eric Schlosser (producer of Food, Inc. and author of Fast Food Nation) and narrated by Forest Whitaker, features the CIW’s Campaign for Fair Food as the long-sought solution to the exploitation and abuse of farmworkers in the US.

Below is a link to the notice for a special meeting of the Incorporate Trustees.   The bylaws of the corporation require this notice  to members 10 days in advance of the meeting which will be held August 24, 2014.   The bylaws state that "all members in good standing" are also members of the corporation.

Public banking is banking in the public interest. It is not a retail bank. It is owned by the citizens of the county, city or state. It is an incredibly important innovation in public policy. Public banking is all about making money less scarce by funding the things our community values.

MEETING WITH FOCUS ORGANIZER AND LEADERS

This Thursday, September 19, at 7:00 P.M., at our Meeting House,  a representative from FOCUS (Federation of Congregations United to Serve) and a couple of  leaders from its member congregations will be presenting the FOCUS model of organizing and sharing with us the issues and concerns they are currently actively engaging. The meeting should not take more than an hour, with the opportunity for Friends to ask questions regarding the FOCUS process and what would be required of our congregation to join.

Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemoration - Abolition 2020 Ceremony

Quakers of Orlando are hosting an interfaith prayer service toward abolishing nuclear weapons by August 6, 2020, the 75th anniversary of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Light refreshments will be served.

A portion of the proceeds will go the Quaker Meeting and its supported charities.
